Moodle 3.9, the latest version of the Moodle LMS, is here. Let’s take a look at the key features of the new release and some reasons why you might want to upgrade your LMS to Moodle 3.9!

More accessible to your learners

Moodle 3.9 includes improvements linked to a big overhaul of accessibility. Ahead of the new release, Moodle conducted an accessibility audit of the 20 most used pages on its LMS, including the dashboard and other pages frequented by students, teachers and admins.

It also includes fixes for accessibility issues found on those 20 key pages, so the new version will make your online learning content more accessible to learners.

Copy courses in a few clicks

It’s now far easier to duplicate courses. Moodle 3.9’s copy course feature will save you time when creating a new course with similar content or structure to other courses. After just a few clicks, your existing course will be duplicated and ready for you to edit as a new course.

Add activities to your courses more easily

Moodle 3.9 has a new, customisable user interface, which includes the option for admins to ‘recommend’ specific activities or resources. Popular activities and resource types can also be ‘starred’. In both cases, it means your favourite or most frequently used activities and resource types will be grouped together, making them easier to find and add to your courses.

Find the learners you’re looking for more quickly

It’s easier to sort and filter learners with Moodle 3.9. New and improved search queries (such as ‘and’, ‘or’ and ‘not’) make it simple to find the group of learners you need to track down. The performance of the Participants page has also been improved, so your filtered results will appear a lot faster.

Block external websites during quizzes and assessments

Safe Exam Browser is now fully integrated with Moodle 3.9, so you can create controlled environments for assessments. You will be able to prevent students accessing external websites and apps while taking part in quizzes. This has obvious benefits during prolonged spells of remote learning.

Create and grade interactive learning content

Moodle 3.8 saw the first stage of an integration with H5P to allow for the creation of quizzes, games, videos, drag and drop activities. In Moodle 3.9, H5P is now fully integrated as standard, with the option to create and manage your generated content in one place. Learners can use your interactive content and receive a grade or be marked as complete for the activity, further integrating it into a learning pathway.
