Maximise engagement in your learning by making it simple for your learners to access your LMS.

You don’t need us to tell you that your LMS is competing with a host of other things when it attempts to grab and maintain your learners’ attention. With so many other ways of spending their team readily available, you don’t want to do anything that will deter them from engaging in learning. That’s why it’s vital to make it as easy as possible for learners to access your LMS in the first place.

If there’s anything that makes it difficult, awkward or time-consuming to access courses, the chances are your learners will just get on with something easier instead.

So how do you simplify and streamline the route between your learners and your learning content? Let’s find out.

Single sign-on

Single sign-on (SSO) is an authentication process that means a single ID and password signs a user into multiple systems. In this case the benefit is that if your learner is already signed into a system they use on a daily basis, SSO will allow them to automatically sign into your LMS.

Integrations

Similarly to single sign-on, you can also make it easier for learners to access your LMS by integrating with other software and systems. Whether that’s Google, Facebook, Hubspot, Salesforce or something that’s specific to your industry or business, creating overlap between these systems will help to make your LMS more engaging and part of the furniture for your learners.

Automated enrolment

One of the aforementioned integrations could be with your HR system. By integrating your HR data with your LMS, you can automatically register learners on the LMS and even enrol them onto relevant course and learning pathways. By taking away the need for either the learner or a member of admin to complete a registration process and book onto specific courses, you’re immediately removing two potential barriers to entry. Your learners’ focus can be on immediately starting their learning rather than completely a laborious sign-up process.

Design and branding

By ensuring that your LMS follows your brand guidelines and is comparable in UX design to other systems, you can help your learners to feel at home. For example, a login page that replicates the look and feel of other login pages is likely to increase engagement.

Internal communications

There are lots of things we can do in the design and development process that will make it as easy as possible for learners to access your LMS, but there’s also a sales job to be done. Smart internal communications around LMS launches and to new starters can help to immediately ingrain accessing the LMS as something that comes as second nature.

Learning experience platform

Another way to improve access to your LMS is to incorporate it within a learning experience platform (LXP). An LXP like Totara Engage combines with the Totara Learn LMS to integrate bitesize chunks of learning within the user’s workflow. Accessing the LMS becomes not only very easy, but almost an incident part of each learner’s daily routine.
