Moodle Workplace, Moodle’s newest product was released mid February (2019) at the Learning Technologies show in London. The product has been specifically designed with the workplace in mind.
Since the release, our expert Moodle team has fielded many questions about the platform. Many questions have related to the functionality, features and benefits of Moodle Workplace but one question that keeps coming up is,
How will Moodle Workplace help improve core Moodle?
To answer this we thought it would be best to hand over to Moodle’s founder Martin Dougiamas who discussed this in more detail in a recent blog post.
There are two main ways this will happen:
- The increased revenues from Workplace users via our existing (and future) Moodle Partners will allow us to grow our team of core developers, researchers, educators and UX specialists. This will help us improve Moodle Core by developing new features, fixing bugs, synchronising and supporting the thousands of developers in our community, and so on.
- The Workplace team have many features on their roadmap that are beneficial for users in higher education and schools. Each case will be evaluated individually, but over time, you will see continual new features incorporated into Core that have been derived from Workplace. Not all Workplace features will migrate to Core, and Workplace will always have (old and new) features that are not in Core.’
Hopefully this has given you all a better understanding of the impact of Moodle Workplace on Moodle core.
