How to Enter?
I asked Alex why would I buy his book and his response was:
The documentation and forums on moodle.org are an invaluable resource for Moodle admins. However, some of its content is a bit disparate and unstructured. The “Moodle 2 Administration” book aims to rectify this and often supplements moodle.org.
Whether you administer a small Moodle site or manage a network of hundreds of Moodle instances, I promise that you will find the book a useful resource.
To be in with a chance to win all you have to do is leave a comment on this blog post answering the same question:
Q. Why would you buy the “Moodle 2 Administration” book?
You have 2 weeks!
The winners will be drawn at random – be sure to use a valid email in the comments form so that we can contact you if you win! Good luck!

I would buy this book to have a solid tool in my hands for workshops where people always ask the strangest questions and hopefully I could hand them the book to look it up themselves during lunch breaks without internet access :;-) … or set up tasks for a group and ask them to explain to the participants … project ased workshops
Ensuring Moodle efficiently and effectively ‘works for’ for the end users in our school, in our case the teachers, students and parents is one of the most important jobs we have in promoting the use of our learning platform. Getting the administration right is right at the heart of that aim. Buying the book – if you take the previous comments into account makes good sense.
Buying this book would help me in supporting the elearning strategy within my company. Since we are responsible for providing admin support for two moodle servers reading this book will certianly prove useful.
I would like Alex’s Moodle 2 Administration book as it would be an excellent reference tool for the budding site developer. I am only sorry that as a gift from Packt publishing Alex Buchner may not receive any royalties for his hard work.
We are new to Moodle as a business and are looking for ways to increase our internal expertise and to develop lasting partnerships with trusted Moodle consultants. It’s always a good indication of the quality of the business when key textbooks are developed by members of the team.
As a school facing an upgrade to Moodle2 (fingers crossed), having a hard copy book to hand when working through all the changes with Moodle2 will be invaluable. When relying on online resources to teach you how to use a system it can rapidly become very confusing if you have to have many windows open and keep jumping around from tutorial webpages to the system you’re trying to get to grips with. Having the information in a nice easy to read logical format that can be worked through right in front of me would be brilliant (plus I can take the book to bed with me for some late night moodle reading!).
To upgrade from 1.9
I want to have a guide to getting Moodle set up in the most efficient and effective manner. I also feel like I spend a lot of time on the Moodle forums and websites about Moodle trying to glean what are the most beneficial activities, plugins and uses with high school students. It will be so good to have an expert’s help through this new book on the current version!
I don’t just want this book — I will absolutely need it! I am moving from an organization that provides me with Moodle 2.2. support (limited, but there) to hosting it with a provider as I strike out on my own as an edupreneur! Wish me luck…I sure love that new Mobile theme….
Don
I would like this book to learn Moodle 2 when I’m not connected to internet.
I would buy this book as it would be a great resource in efficient administration of Moodle 2.0. What I now know is knowledge gained from reading Moodle forums and Moodle.org and they are great resources, although I spend a lot of time searching for what I need. The book will be an excellent one-stop shop for assistance!
I would buy it to have another point of preference at my workplace other than me!
Currently, if a staff member wants to do any admin changes, they have to come to me. I’d prefer them to look it up instead.
I want but this book for mastering in moodle administration.
The organisation I work for has migrated from Moodle 1.9 to Moodle 2. There is so much difference between the systems that this resouce would be invaluable with quick answers instead of the trail and error method we are currently having to employ to troubleshoot site issues. Also as I train users in how to use the whole of Moodle from Basic through to Administration I am now sometimes only half a step ahead of the trainees in the Administraion sessions.
I’ll get this book cause is important to be introduced into Moodle 2, that is very diferent to Moodle 1.x
I would buy the “Moodle 2 Administration” book because I need develop skills as admin in my Moodle site
I would buy the “Moodle 2 Administration” book because it looks very interesting
If I don’t win a copy 0.o I would buy the “Moodle 2 Administration” book anyway
Keep Happy, Keep Moodleing =)
Hi Synergy , to get it clear … it’s not the print book but the eBook that is given away ;.) … for me that’s fine
I still want it..even better for group tasks
Our institution (well, to be honest just me) is preparing for the leap from 1.9 to 2.x this summer, so I’ve got a full on schedule of installing, testing, configuring, translating and then teaching to cram into the next 6 months. This book could be the must-have tool to ensure that all goes smoothly with minimum scrabbling around trying to find out the most effective way to do XYZ.
Thanks for all the entries so far! Keep ‘em coming. Sigi you are right – the copies we are giving away are eBooks
Our company is in the process of setting up a learning management system to increase the training and competency of our organisation. It’s a minefield! What’s the point of having Moodle if you’re not going to use it properly. I would buy this book to make sure the investment we are putting into the system lives up to its expectations. A concise refence book by an expert is exactly what i’m looking for.
I would bit this book because I’m The administración of my school planning to upgrade to moodle 2 at the end of this course. There’s not any book in spanish about thus issue so I’d bit this one.
Toni
I have several reasons. First, in my country we dont get this kind of book. Second, I need condensed information and structured information of moodle 2.0, specially how to customize and administrate courses.
I would purchase this book to increase my professional knowledge on the administrative back end of Moodle. I feel a strong knowledge in creating a class Moodle page, but I would love to have a point of reference to be able to administer server aspects of Moodle
I have been a Moodle administrator since Moodle 1.6 days and the move to Moodle 2.0 brings with it the greatest changes to both functionality and the user interface. With a firm understanding of the Moodle 2.0 enhancements and how to get there from Moodle 1.9.x, upgrading to Moodle 2.x.latest is a breeze. Having struggled with the upgrade process prior to being made aware of the existence of this resource, I can see how this resource can be an invaluable asset to all Moodle administrators, both new and experienced. The choice of topics, how they are laid out, and the sample chapter have all convinced me that this is a “must have” resource to upgrade existing sites as well as to create fresh Moodle 2.x sites taking advantage of the feature set of the moodle core and Moodle 2.0 third-party plugins. I would use it for the aforementioned purposes, as well as for a foundation in the preparation of professional development training for Moodle administrators, managers, course creators and teachers.
GREETINGS FROM AUSTRALIA.
Living down under e-Books are great. Like my website they are a brilliant idea. I can print them out, Upside Down and round and round…………much easier to read when you live in the Southern Hemisphere.
GO e-Books
I am implementing Moodle 2 and am trying to get my head around how it all hangs together. If I have someone elses brain it makes it so much easier.
I am familiar with the excellent standards that Packt Publishing maintains. I would use this ebook to support the move to Moodle 2.0, particularly by sharing it with the tech support staff who are collaborators in the successful hosting of our blended learning initiatives.
Having this book will help me to finally take advance of all that Moodle 2 has to offer. I agree with the author about some times it is hard to follow a topic line in forums and even worst if you are trying to complete the whole migration process.
Currently only a few of us staff members are using Moodle consistently. As we find things we want to add on or have the “can it do?” question, we have to do our searching along with our administrator who is new as well. We will be updating to Moodle 2 in about a month and could use the resource.
I would buy this book for a couple of reasons. The first would be for my own benefit in migration and administration of a 2.x Moodle site at work as I generally feel like a book provides a little more sound “best practice” than the forums or docs sometimes do and the second would be for a quick reference when people (usually administrators, tech facilitators, or teachers) ask me if Moodle can do this or that, or the how/why the administration section works or is configured the way it is. Handing them the book and letting them read it themselves lends a certain degree of credibility as to why things are done the way they are.
because I want to master Moodle admin and my son’s name is Alex.
We are a business in Hong Kong providing educational services to both children and adults. As internet is advancing, we want to begin transferring our services to an online platform. Having Moodle 2 Administration would be essential for us to kick start our planning, installation and customization of our online site.
I would buy the book because we have Moodle in house as LMS and I am an LMS administrator. I think this book is of good quality because it is recommended here.
We have been using Moodle1.9.15 now for a year and are having to go to the world of 2.0 this week. I would buy the book to get my self up to speed quickly. Our School district is taking one of the servers and creating a 2.0 Virtual High School. That will happen on the 20th. How appropriate. Imagine I will be administering four version 1.9 sites and one 2.0 That will be sooooo much fun to juggle without a book. Yep, I will buy one. If I don’t win one first. :0)
To analyze the differences between Moddle 1.9 and 2.X on the admin side.
I would buy the book to help me manage and protect my site
I am preparing to migrate from 1.9 onward and this book would be an indispensable help.
Thanks for this opportunity! It will be a great resource for when we move to Moodle 2 this summer!
Crossing my fingers you pull my number!

I would buy the Moodle 2 Administration book in order to assist me in administering Moodle. It would be useful to have a structured guide to the new functionality and additional features within M2 since we are migrating from 1.9 soon. Since it is in an electonic format and easily accessible, i would be able to carry it around and read it anywhere!
I would buy this book because I am impressed with Moodle 2 since testing it last couple of weeks and my company is going to use it as an addition to our services. I think the book will be great contribution to help us work with Moodle to maximize its potential.

As someone who helps customers & charity colleagues maintain their moodle environments; this book, continuing the best practice from 1.9 into 2.x is a great help.
Have previously purchased one of these books for Koha library management system. It was very comprehensive so I would expect that this one would be equally useful for Moodle.
We just made the move from Blackboard version of WebCT to Moodle 2.0. This book would most definitely come in handy as I am learning to be the administrator of Moodle!
I would buy this book because I bought the Moodle 1.9 administration book and found it to be invaluable. This book really provides detailed information about the backend settings and the rationale for setting them in a prescribed way.
Many of us function as both course designers and administrators. This book allows us to “painlessly” bridge the gap between the two.
I would buy the book because I no longer have children at home to show me how to do the technical things in life….
Having just started my PhD which integrates Moodle with other learning technologies such as virtual worlds and serious games, I would buy this book for a comprehensive resource specific to Moodle 2.0 which would help me gain a better understanding of the differences between 2.0 and 1.9 and how my proposed integrations and other features such as the activity reports, tracking facilities and logging features can be embraced and linked with other learning technologies.
Because my college is about to Migrate to Moodle 2, and it’s going to be my responsibility to look after the site. Any help I can find with the transition to 2.x is more than welcome. We have various custom developed modules as part of our existing site and I imagine that adapting them to work with Moodle 2 is going to be challenging. I’ve booked onto training courses and read all that I can find on the net about the upgrade process but when you know something’s giong to be a steep learning curve, sometimes there’s nothing better than a good old fashioned ‘dead tree’ book.
(I also love the feedback loop of commenting on why you’d buy his book in order to not have to buy his book.)
If I won a copy, I would use the knowledge gained to better suport & train the 30 plus school districts that I help Administer. We are scheduled to update all of our school districts this July and August. Many of our school districts have over 1,200 student Moodle users. Some of each school has at least a few courses that are over 2 Gigs in size. With the new tools and functionality, I would like to help these teachers streamline their courses to better challenge and captivate the students.
I would purchase a copy to enable me to gain a greater understanding and deliver enhanced targeted cascade training to peers, subordinates and superiors. Moodle is a new concept within the defence environment in the UK and this resource would greatly enhance the understanding and concept of Moodle.
